The Project
Application: Residential
Location: West Yorkshire, Bradford
System: Modular Ramp

Requirements
Due to being a wheelchair user, this customer had been struggling with entry and exit to their home due to tight doorways and placement of obstacles inside the home. We needed to design a bespoke solution which would accommodate for all their needs. They were initially looking at coming out of the existing front doorway, however, there was very limited access behind it due to a tight turn and the position of the staircase. This meant it was still too difficult to use the original doorway.
Once our surveyor had been to the property, they determined that a new door would need to be installed to grant better access from inside and out. This required the removal of a window at the front of the property and replacing it with a new door. While the ramp was being fitted to the new door, our surveyor configured a way that the ramp can be extended along the front of the house to still grant access to the original door while also incorporating bin storage.
Features
The ramp needed to be suitable and fit for purpose, following on from our site survey we determined that the ramp needed to have the following specification:
- This has a 4m x 1.2m wide platform which covers both doors
- A widened landing area,
- A metal covering over the drain to allow access to it if needed but to prevent it from being a trip hazard
- Gravel underneath to prevent weeds from growing through
- A new door for entry and exit
- A bin storage area on the ramp
End Result
We installed a modular ramp along with a platform, bin storage area and a new access point. This made getting in and out of the home much easier for this customer. Before the install, the customer had to use improvised methods to get in and out of the property which was making it really difficult without help. So we added an additional door at the property, where the customer could use that as an alternative because there was much more room to manoeuvre inside the home, making it much more comfortable for them.
We also made sure that the existing door was available as part of this ramp installation, this was ensure that deliveries and other users could still access the main door at the property.
As well as all these considerations, we made sure that there was room for bin storage on the end of the ramp. This was because, the bins were initially situated in this area before the install and this is what the customer was used to. We made sure that this area wouldn’t affect access to the property but making sure our customer still had room to take the bins in and out.
Overall, this was another successful installation which left the customer really happy with the outcome, they no longer have to use improvised methods to access the property, they can get in and out with ease and confidence.
