Cramlington Town FC, Northumberland

The Project

Cramlington Town FC, a local amateur and junior football club, needed a new ramp for their recently refurbished clubhouse. Easiaccess was tasked with providing a solution within a strict budget and tight deadline. The ramp, featuring Easitread Rubber surface and balustrade handrails, was installed efficiently and met all required specifications, including a 1:15 gradient and highlighted edges for users with visual impairments. Additionally, recycled handrails were utilised to minimise costs for the client.

Requirements

The customer for this project was a local amateur and junior football club (Cramlington Town FC) who had recently refurbished their clubhouse, with new facilities such as a kitchen, bar and changing rooms.  They were currently using a portable ramp, that was increasingly not fit for purpose due to footfall at the site.

Within this project we were asked to work survey the site and discuss all available options with the client. The client was working within a strict budget given they are small local football club and charity.

Easiaccess were working to a relatively short deadline and needed to have the ramp installed approx. 6-8 weeks after survey, ready for the opening of the clubhouse.  We had to allow for Easitread Rubber ramp surface and the clubhouse to be ready for the install.

End Result

The install was completed within 6 hours, our installers were able to liaise with the club and keep the client up to date with the install and ultimately check with the club that everything was ok prior to leaving site.

Overall, the football club were very pleased with the finished installation and that they now had access to and from the newly refurbished clubhouse. They were happy with the products and how we were able to assist using some recycled products given their budget constraints.

Features

The ramp needed to be suitable and fit for purpose, following on from our site survey we determined that the ramp needed to follow the provide specification and have the following:

  • Easitread Rubber Crumb surface (our low slip potential, impact absorbing and recommended surface for ramps within schools). Perfect for use at the club, given football players would be wearing studded football boots.
  • Balustrade Handrails – this is required within non domestic settings at heights of over 380mm
  • The ramp was 3.8m in total and included the main platform of 1800x2000mm.
  • 1 : 15 gradient as per surveyors recommendation.
  • Continuous handrails – we used our standard connectors which allow continuous handrails meaning we could ensure compliance.
  • Highlighted edges – we also included 55mm yellow highlighted edges to all step nosing’s and any levels changes to the ramps – we offer this on all non-domestic ramps to aid any potential users who may have visual impairments.
  • Stepped access – for ambulant users who did not wish to walk around and up the ramp.
  • Threshold extension plate, this provided a smooth transition from threshold to platform.
  • Recycled handrails (we were able to used pre-used handrails to keep the costs down for the customer)
