The Project
As part of a partnership network, we were engaged to install a ramp for a new Changing Places facility at Irchester Country Park, ensuring full accessibility. After a site survey and discussing options with the client, we completed the ramp installation within a tight deadline, coordinating closely with the client’s on-site team. The project was successfully finished on time, providing compliant disabled access and meeting the client’s expectations.
Application: Public
Location: Irchester Country Park, Wellingborough
System: Modular Ramp
Requirements
The customer for this project was a company that works as part of our partnership network. They were working on a project to install a new Changing Places facility at a Country Park in Irchester. Changing Places are designed so that they are completely accessible and provide sufficient space and equipment for people who are not able to use the toilet independently, naturally this also required ramped access.
Within this project we were asked to work survey the site and discuss all available options with the client. We needed to carry out a survey as soon as the building works commenced.
Easiaccess were working to a relatively short deadline and needed to have the ramp installed approx. 6-8 weeks after survey, in line with when the changing places facility was completed. We couldn’t arrive for the installed until the new low level access door was installed by the client.
Features
The ramp needed to be suitable and fit for purpose, following on from our site survey we determined that the ramp needed to have the following specification:
- Balustrade Handrails – this is required within non domestic settings at heights of over 380mm
- The ramp was 6m in total and included the main platform of 1500x2400mm.
- 1 : 15 gradient as per surveyors recommendation.
- Continuous handrails – we used our standard connectors which allow continuous handrails meaning we could ensure compliance.
- 1100mm high balustrade handrails to all level walkway areas
- Highlighted edges – we also included 55mm yellow highlighted edges to all step nosing’s and any levels changes to the ramps – we offer this on all non-domestic ramps to aid any potential users who may have visual impairments.
- Stepped access – for ambulant users who did not wish to walk around and up the ramp.
- Threshold extension plate, this provided a smooth transition from threshold to platform.
- Accompanying 2D plan and 3D elevation drawings
- Timber skirting, this was requested by the client to prevent access below the ramp and stop debris from collecting beneath the ramp.
End Result
The install was completed within 16 hours, our installers were able to liaise with the client and keep the client up to date with the install, our fitters were in constant contact with client as their on-site team were still working on some finishing touches to the facility.
This was a very interesting project to work on, the client was very happy with the install and were pleased to be able to open the changing places facility on time and now with fully compliant disabled ramp access.
