Sunderland, Tyne and Wear

The Project

The client needed better access to the front of their property, with the existing stepped access proving difficult to negotiate and the rear of the property also difficult to access.

Application: Residential
Location: Sunderland, Tyne and Wear
System: Modular Step Unit

Requirements

The clients existing access involved 5 steps into the property, and stepped access out of the garden into the path, all of which had high risers providing difficult to negotiate.

Features

  • An extended step unit to reduce the step height
  • Infill rails specified given the heights involved
  • Low maintenance groundworks installed
  • Height of ramp and public footpath matched for ease of transition

End Result

Assessing the mobility of the client, it was determined that stepped access was possible, but with smaller risers. This was achieved by increasing the number of steps and providing a level platform outside the entrance.

Access up the garden out of the front gate was also improved by providing a ramp to a newly created paved area level with the public footpath. Further groundworks were undertaken to extend the walkway areas.
